WHEN FRIEND-SHIP HITS THE FAN (AND I GO POP CULTURE CRAZY)
REVERSED 3 OF CUPS / 7 OF WANDS - RWS TAROT DECK (ORIGINAL IMAGE)
As we all know, life is full of challenges. Work becomes overwhelming. Money gets tight. Political rivalries flare. Even close relationships aren’t immune to the ups and downs we all experience at times.
This week’s message for the Shadow Supporter community arrives in the form of the reversed 3 of Cups and the 7 of Wands. We’re no stranger to the latter, as it was recently discussed at length in the Shadow Journal. (See the post Lowering Your Guard for Growth from September 8, 2026). But paired with the reversed 3 of Cups, the message evolves, so keep reading to discover its significance.
The 3 of Cups is typically a card of celebration and friendship. Those crazy times in your formative years you often think back on and smile? The figures in the card are the people who were always by your side. Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe? Buffy, Xander, and Willow? Yep, those are the types of bonds found within the 3 of Cups. However, this week’s reading has the card in reverse, which alludes to shifting dynamics within the circle. To put it bluntly – things are a little Sex and the City when the cameras aren’t rolling.
If you’ve recently found your friend group in upheaval or if you’ve been isolating yourself from those that once brought you joy, now is a good time to reflect and dig deeper. Pausing and asking yourself why you’ve felt the need to be more protective of your energy in familiar circles could benefit you; but truthfully, you probably already know the answer. It’s why you’ve put up a shield.
Close friendships are one of life’s many joys, but it’s not always sunny in Philadelphia. (I’m dating myself with these references!) We are all constantly learning, growing, and changing, and sometimes our friendships don’t evolve with us. And that’s okay. Not all alliances will stand the test of time, and you might be picking up on cues that your once tight-knit group is now only held together with fond memories.
So now is where you make a choice. You’ve put up boundaries, and that may be for the best. You have the right to let people remain in your inner circle or hold them at arm’s length. Both are valid options. If you do find yourself not wishing for another series finale of Friends, consider opening a dialogue with your support system and telling them how you feel. Those 7 wands poking at you while you maintain your ground? They are often meant to initiate development. You can decide how much to protect yourself, but if the dynamics are worth salvaging, have those honest conversations. And if Will & Grace can reboot their love for each other, there’s hope for you too.
